BEACHES & COAST
Beaches and coast: Azenhas do Mar is situated in a picturesque valley with white houses perched on the North Slope. As one of the most appreciated and interesting beaches, Azenahs do Mar beaches have swimming pools dug out of the rock. The Miradouro das Azenhas do Mar is built on cliffs that drop fearlessly to the ocean and is a popular place both in Summer and Winter due to the grandeur of the view it offers. There, you can admire the Atlantic Ocean in its entire splendor and, with a little luck, watch fishing trawlers sail far away. Along the coast of Sintra, from São Julião in the north to Cape Roca in the south, are countless beaches with soft golden sand bathed by the Atlantic. The best known are undoubtedly Samarra, Magoito, Azenhas do Mar, Praia das Macas, Praia Grande and Praia da Adraga. Also tucked away along the coast are little rocky coves that have become very popular with Portuguese and foreign tourists.
